Title: Bremerton Lodge #117 Announced as Winner of Twain Award
Date: 3/3/2010

Bremerton Lodge #117 has been announced as one of only 17 lodges that will receive the 2009 Mark TWAIN Award for Masonic Awareness given by the Masonic Service Association of North America.

This award was created by the MSA in 2006 to recognize “lodges that demonstrate energy, innovation and initiative in creating a positive Masonic identity in the community and extol the values of Freemasonry”. Since creation of the Award, it has been granted to 11 lodges in 2006, 19 lodges in 2007 and 24 lodges in 2008. Up to 50 lodges may be selected in a single year, although this year only 17 lodges will receive the award. This marks the second year that Bremerton Lodge has received this distinguished award.

Bremerton Lodge based it's 2009 application on its Education Projects and community involvement. Masonic Education efforts were aimed to both members within and to those without the Masonic community. The Master of the Lodge disseminated books of the Meaning of Masonry to member and brethren visiting the lodge. Additionally, two educational events were held, an evening with John Greer, Masonic author and a St. John's Day Celebration.

Bremerton 117 also nominated and recognized Educator of the Year to an Principal from a local High School. Bremerton 117 is also active in community involvement and hosts an Easter Egg Hunt for the Holly Ridge Childrens' center each year, and held an Elvis Night, Halloween Party, and the annual Shamrock Dinner, all events which were open to the public.

The Masonic Service Association will make the official award presentation later this year. This is usually done at the Grand Lodge Communication. which is usually held in June each year

The annual Mark Twain Masonic Awareness Award is first and foremost about Masons working together, benefiting from ideas and experiences of Masons throughout North America who are working to move Masonry into the fast-paced world of the 21st Century.

The award borrows Brother Mark Twain’s identity as a lively, innovative communicator, whose work consistently challenged his listeners and readers to think and act responsibly, to ask questions, and to seek enlightenment.

“What is a man without energy? Nothing. Nothing at all.”

-Mark Twain
